Parque Nacional Tikal
El Parque Nacional Tikal es ubica en Petén, una de las regiones de Guatemala, declarado por la UNESCO Patrimonio Cultural Mundial en 1979.
Con una extensión de 57.584 hectáreas, se trata de unos de los más interesantes centro arqueológicos de la cultura maya donde se han podido realizar varios e importantes descubrimientos. Su nombre fue dado por un arqueólogo estadounidense y significa “lugar de las voces”.
El espacio arqueológico tiene una superficie de 1.600 hectáreas, siendo la ciudad antigua de la cultura maya más grande. El sitio arqueológico fue descubierto en 1848 y desde allí se realizan continuos trabajos de restauración y descubrimientos.
Como se llega? El Parque Nacional Tikal se halla a 63 kilómetro de Flores, Petén, a 495 kilómetros de la capital del país. Una vez alojados en Flores se encuentran todo tipo de servicios para visitar dicho parque: traslados y excursiones con mejores precios que desde otro punto del país.
Para llegar a Flores, la misma cuenta con aeropuerto que recibe vuelos desde Guatemala City, Belize y Estados Unidos. Si se prefiere el transporte terrestre hay dos empresas de buses que realizan el trayecto Guatemala City a Flores y viceversa: ADN y Línea Dorada.
Comienza el viaje… desde el aeropuerto internacional Santa Elena se realiza el traslado de aproximadamente 1 hora hasta unos 18 kilómetros antes del ingreso al Parque Nacional Tikal, justo donde el bosque se empieza a tornar más espeso. Lo primero que se ve es la Ceiba gigante, sagrada por la cultura maya, señalando los puntos cardinales.
De los tres senderos, conviene tomar el del medio hasta el cartel que dice Grupo F un antiguo mercado muy bien conservado y luego se llega a la Plaza Principal. Un tanto más adelante de la plaza de halla el Templo III siendo el único con su dintel (el umbral sobre la puerta) aún intacto. Los dinteles de los demás templos fueron transportados a diferentes museos.
El Templo III conviene visitarlo con la luz de las primeras horas del día. Luego de su visita lo mejor es continuar sobre la Calzada Tozzer que conecta los Templos III y IV para poder visitar el Palacio de los Murciélagos, un palacio de dos pisos repletos de escalinatas y pequeñas habitaciones que se conectan entre sí… deje libre unos minutos para disfrutar del aire natural de Tikal.
Un poco más se llega al llamado Complejo N, uno de los 7 complejos del Parque de pirámides gemelas. Continuando se llega al Templo IV, la figura más alta del Parque Nacional Tikal (72 metros) y, sin dudas, su emblema.
Continuando hacia la Calzada Maudslay se llega a los Complejos P y M, el paseo por dicha Calzada es uno de los más bonitos con su exuberante fauna. Llegando al Complejo P se puede ver el monumento mejor preservado (la Estela 20 y su Altar) el mejor sitio del Parque Nacional Tikal para relajarse y dejarse llevar.
La Calzada Mahler es la que lleva a un cruce de caminos: a la derecha conduce a la Plaza Este detrás del Templo I y a la izquierda de llega al Complejo Q.
Continuando sobre la selva donde la Calzada pasa a ser una empinada cuesta se llega a la Plaza Mayor con la Acrópolis Central, el Palacio de Cinco Niveles, el Templo II.
La caminata continúa hasta el Mundo Perdido, con su gran pirámide, uno de los últimos sitios excavados.
El Parque Nacional Tikal es aventura, conocimiento, cultura, arte y naturaleza viva. Cabe destacar que al ingreso al parque se pueden obtener mapas, fotografías e información sobre el lugar, además de poder visitar los Museos referentes al mismo.
Se puede dormir en Tikal? para una completa y maravillosa experiencia no deje de pasar, al menos una noche, alojándose allí. En alguno de sus tres hoteles: Jungle Inn, Jaguar Inn y Tikal Inn situados en medio de la selva, habitaciones con baño privado, bar, restaurante, piscinas y todos los servicios básicos para una confortable estadía.
Para los más aventureros también funciona una zona para carpas dentro del parque.
Consejos de viajeros: lleve siempre consigo una botella de agua mineral, calzado cómodo y en buen estado, ropa cómoda y holgada de colores claros, use repelente, protector solar.
